Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Diagnostic process is similar to that of western medicine where a medical history is taken and an examination carried out. Consultation with a TCM doctor is therefore similar to seeing a GP/consultant. Unique to TCM, however, are pulse and tongue diagnosis when the patient's pulses are examined on both wrists for their strength, rhythm, sped, width/depth and shape, etc., while the tongue is studied for its colour, coating, movements and many other aspects.
After the history taking and examination, the doctor makes a TCM diagnosis and prescribes treatments accordingly. As our doctors are fully trained in Western medicine, where necessary they would advise you to see a GP to clarify the diagnosis or ask for reports of your recent investigation, for instance, blood test, scan or X-rays.
