Acupuncture is a treatment whereby needles are inserted into acupoints along the meridians, a network of pathways connecting the skin and the internal organs. There are 14 major meridians and over 361 acupoints. Via these points, acupuncture regulates the movement of Chi (Vital energy) and Blood in order to restore the body to its balanced state.
Acupuncture is an effective pain relief whether the pain is due to muscular/skeletal or internal problems. It is equally effective in treating many other conditions where pain is not a symptom such as high blood pressure, addiction, and mental/emotional disorders e.g., stress, anxiety and depression.
As the needles are extremely fine, bleeding and pain rarely occur although certain sensations are expected when the needles are manipulated to stimulate the points. After insertion, the needles usually stay in for about 20 minutes. People often feel energised or relaxed afterwards. At our clinic, only sterilised disposable needles are used.
